- Chunky loop yarn (I used Bernat EZ Loop Yarn in color: orange leaf, from Joann, with a coupon – I’ve linked additional similar options below)
Instructions
First, we’ll show you how to make a yarn wreath in just 2 easy steps! Then we’ll show you how to turn it into a charming pumpkin yarn wreath for your front door by adding a stem and a DIY burlap bow.
Step 1: Secure the Yarn
Begin by taking the end of the yarn and tying it around the outer wire of the wreath form. Ensure it’s tightly secured with a double knot or a dab of hot glue. This yarn will serve as the base for your loopy yarn wreath.
Step 2: Wrap the Yarn
Start wrapping the yarn around the entire wreath form. Make it tight, so the pumpkin has a fuller look with the rows very close to each other.
Continue wrapping until the entire wreath form is covered.

HOw Much YARN DO I NEED?
The amount of yarn you’ll need will depend on the thickness of your yarn and the size of your wreath form. One skein of loop yarn (6.4 oz / 180 g) covered this 14-inch wire wreath form, but I could have used 2 and made it extra fluffy.
For a larger wreath form, you’ll need 2 skeins or more. Thinner yarn with less texture will also require more yarn to cover the wreath form, especially if you use a thicker foam wreath form.
Step 3: Add Burlap Pumpkin Stem
Take a section of burlap (approximately 5 inches by 4 inches), tri-fold it, and hot glue the folds together to secure them.
Now, apply some hot glue to the backside of the wreath and press the burlap piece firmly onto it. Be cautious, as the burlap may have holes through which hot glue can seep, potentially causing burns.
Step 4: Create a DIY Burlap Bow
Cut three pieces of ribbon: one 5 inches long and two 7 inches long. Fold the 5-inch section in half, with some overlapping, and do the same with one of the 7-inch sections. Use some spare string to tie the pieces in the center.
Cover the center section with a small piece of ribbon for a finished look. If you desire tails on the bow, fold the last piece of 7-inch ribbon in half, add it to the backside of the bow with glue, and cut the ends to create dovetails.
Step 5: Attach the Bow
Apply hot glue to the backside of the ribbon and press it firmly onto the front of the wreath, positioning it where you like.
